Assembly approves 10-year agreement for body cameras, Taser 10s and digital evidence system

The Petersburg Borough Assembly voted 7–0 to authorize a multi-year agreement with Accent Enterprise, Inc. to provide body-worn cameras, Taser 10 devices, in-car camera systems, digital evidence storage, training and related software services in an amount not to exceed $378,897.58 over a 10-year term, with annual payments subject to appropriation.

Chief Kerr explained the vendor proposal combines multiple existing contracts into a single 10-year agreement that includes technology-refresh clauses for battery and device updates and provides the borough access to the Taser 10 model (which gives officers more deployment options compared with older models). He said the contract locks in pricing and includes refreshes so equipment remains operational across the contract term.

Members praised the proposal as improving officer and civilian safety and accountability. The assembly also asked about the system
s AI-assisted report-writing functions; Chief Kerr described safeguards: the tool extracts data from video to assist report drafting but currently requires officers to manually verify and edit content (the system is configured to require a percentage of officer edits before a report can be finalized and the draft must be reviewed at supervisor levels before release).

Member Stan Greger moved the resolution and Member Valentine seconded. The clerk called the roll; the measure passed 7–0.
