Duneland board approves consent agenda and advances staff social-media restriction on first reading

The Duneland School Board on March 2 approved its consent agenda and voted to accept the first reading of a revision to Policy 7544, which would limit staff use of social media during work hours.

During the business portion of the meeting a board member moved to approve the consent agenda; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote when the chair called for "aye." The transcript records the voice vote as in favor.

Later, a district administrator identified in the transcript as Mr. McDermott presented a proposed revision to Policy 7544. According to the administrator, the change would "prohibit staff members from using corporation owned technology resources or personally owned communication devices to access social media for personal use during work hours, including meal periods and breaks."
