The Homewood Special Issues Committee approved a temporary permit allowing Little Donkey to place a tent covering four parking spaces adjacent to 2701 18th Street South for Cinco de Mayo.
The committee heard from staff and the applicant that the tent would be set up about 10 a.m. on May 5 and removed about 10 a.m. on May 6. The applicant (identified in the record as Josh Gentry, with Wyatt Pugh named as a contact) told the committee the tent would occupy four spaces in front of the restaurant and staff said the business owners would try to have the tent removed before Monday lunchtime so storefront access and weekday parking would not be disrupted. "It's a proposed temporary tent on Cinco de Mayo, to cover these 4 spaces in front of Little Donkey from about 10AM on May 5," the presenter said.
Committee members asked whether removal or service vehicles would need access from the travel lane; staff and the applicant said the tent would be assembled and disassembled from the parking area and they did not expect crew work in the street. The chair noted many nearby businesses (including the post office and adjacent shops) are closed on Sunday, reducing the immediate impact, but urged coordination so the tent would not block access Monday morning.
The committee approved the permit by voice vote. The motion to approve was made on the floor and the record shows the vote carried without recorded opposition (affirmative voice votes were noted by the committee; outcome recorded as 5–0 in the meeting record). The item does not require a public hearing, and the applicant was told to return to the council chambers on the scheduled public hearing date only if additional public comment or information is needed.
