Onslow County Cooperative Extension outlined a slate of spring family programs on Onslow County Today, headlined by the annual Bucket Brigade patio-garden giveaway.
“Bucket Brigade is a great partnership between our office and Salvation Army,” said Jessica Gardner, who described the event as a container-garden distribution that supplies soil, plant starts and fertilizer so residents can grow produce in small spaces. The community resource fair will include partner tables, a mini class on care and a free lunch; organizers warned buckets ran out quickly last year.
Logistics announced on air: the Bucket Brigade is scheduled for March 7 at the Farmers Market Building on Richlands Highway, starting at 9 a.m. and running to noon or until supplies are gone. Gardner said additional spring offerings include container-blueberry and composting classes, weekly kids activities, and outreach partnerships with libraries and parks and recreation.
Gardner directed listeners to onslow.ces.ncsu.edu or the Cooperative Extension social channels for calendars and registration details. The Extension emphasized family-friendly programming and efforts to reach areas with limited grocery access through community gardening alternatives.
No permits or county votes were discussed during the segment; the content was informational about community programming.
