The Brookhaven-Comsewogue Board of Education moved through a lengthy consent and action calendar at its March meeting, approving minutes, financial reports, multiple personnel items, contracts and capital project bids.
Key actions approved by voice vote included minutes from the Feb. 2, 2026 meeting and the treasurer's and cash reports for January 2026. Personnel actions included the appointment to tenure of teacher Xanthia Zoe (effective April 24, 2026), an unpaid leave-of-absence extension through June 26, 2026, acceptance of the resignation of Rebecca Herson (music teacher at JFK Middle School, effective March 13, 2026), approval of Carolyn O'Toole for a full-time CSEA school-nurse position (effective April 6, 2026), and approval of lists of part-time and substitute appointments effective March 2, 2026.
Board business also included approval of a 2026 lease for voting equipment with the Board of Elections; approval of an amendment to an agreement with Jennifer Kaufman dated March 2, 2026 (no amendment text was discussed on the record); authorization of budget transfers; declaration of obsolete district property; and acceptance of bids for playground capital improvements at Boyle, Clinton, Norwood and Terryville schools.
Finally, the board adopted a resolution setting the annual budget vote and trustee election for Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., scheduled a public hearing for May 6, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. at the Frank Daddario Administration Building Board of Education Room in Port Jefferson Station, designated Comsewogue High School as the polling place, and directed legal notices and voter-registration procedures as required by law.
