OAG external peer review returns 'pass' rating with no management comments

Danielle Moore of the Office of Auditor General reported to the Fairfax County School Board Audit Committee that the OAG received a pass rating on its external peer review conducted the week of Jan. 26 and that reviewers issued no management letter comments.

Moore said reviewers examined compliance with general government auditing standards, independence, continuing education, audit planning, fieldwork and reporting. "This year we received a pass rating with no management letter comments," Moore said, and she thanked her team for accommodating reviewers during a week that also included a major office event and a snowstorm.

Committee members asked how common it is for an audit shop to receive a pass rating without comments. Moore and other OAG staff said they would research comparative data for the commonwealth and nationally and provide further context to the committee. "We can do some kind of analysis," one OAG staff member said.

The external peer review finding will be recorded in OAG materials and discussed further if committee members request comparative benchmarking information.
