Superintendent announces calendar changes after winter weather and moves Apple Blossom date

Superintendent George Hummer said winter weather disruptions prompted calendar changes intended to give teachers more instructional time in the nine-week period and to avoid a conflict with a special election date.

He listed the immediate adjustments: "March 6 is a regular school day for students. March 9 is now a regular school day for students. March 12 is the end of the third quarter. March 13 is now a teacher grading unencumbered day and optional partial professional learning day. There is no school for students on that day. March 23 is report card distribution for quarter 3, and April 21 is a teacher professional learning day. There is no school for students." Hummer said the district website has been updated to reflect the changes.

Hummer also announced a change to the 2026–27 calendar: the Apple Blossom originally scheduled for Friday, 05/07/2027 has been moved to Friday, 04/30/2027; schools and offices will be closed on 04/30/2027 and 05/07/2027 will now be a regular school day.

He thanked families and staff for flexibility during weather events and emphasized that safety is the priority when making weather and calendar decisions. The superintendent recognized transportation, operations, custodial staff, school leaders and teachers for their work in adjusting schedules and keeping learning running.
