District staff presented a photo album and described recent progress on facility improvements across the Platteville School District.
Jim (Staff member) narrated photos showing the high school ag science classroom and lab, a family consumer science classroom where appliances were due to be delivered, and kitchen demolition and floor work. He said the district is in a ‘‘punch out’’ stage for some areas — addressing minor items before final sign-off — and noted contractors are focusing on an extended summer schedule so complex work can be completed.
At Neil Wilkins, staff showed a newly laid gym floor and described conversion of a former gym area into a multipurpose room and installation of cubbies down hallways. At the middle school staff displayed the commons area where ceilings and finishes were being deconstructed to allow a larger renovation and the addition of five bathrooms behind privacy walls.
Board members urged community members to speak with students about the projects and said student reactions have been very positive. One board member said, "It already looks so much lighter and bigger," and another encouraged greater student voice and spotlights on what the improvements mean to them.
Staff said some appliances were expected to be delivered the next day and that flooring and kitchen work would continue into later June and the extended summer schedule.
