The Village of Glendale on March 1 approved Ordinance 2026-09, amending the 2026 general-fund appropriations to remove a $161,300 allocation that had been budgeted for a school-resource-officer (SRO) position. Administrator David told council that Bethany School paused efforts to establish an SRO and that the village would not use the budgeted funds for that purpose this year.
David said related operating and capital line items (uniforms, supplies, and a cruiser allocation) were also adjusted to reflect that the SRO deployment will not occur in 2026. Finance director confirmed that unnecessary appropriations should be removed once the expenditure will not take place.
Council dispensed with three readings and approved the ordinance by roll call; members present recorded 'Aye' votes. The amendment reduces planned expenditures in the general fund and leaves a small surplus in the village’s projection for the year, according to the administrator.
No replacement use of the removed $161,300 was identified at the meeting; staff indicated any reprogramming of those funds would be handled through the normal budgeting and committee processes.
