Eric presented a sealed bid from Hatterstein and Sons to replace both of the jail’s failing boilers and repair associated work. "Final price, time, materials, not to exceed for the above scope will be, $159,175," Eric read from the bid. He described problems including premature failure from exhaust/backflow and said the county had earlier anticipated a higher estimate but this bid was near expectations.
Commissioners discussed procurement formality — three packets were picked up but only one bid was returned — and asked county counsel to review warranty and contract provisions before recommending award. A commissioner moved to take the bid under advisement pending attorney review and to place the request before county council for appropriation; the board agreed. Tony noted the project's funds could come from courthouse/jail fund sources and that staff would present the request to council so an appropriation could be made.
Next steps: counsel will review warranty terms; county staff will place the item on the council agenda to request appropriation and finalize the procurement decision.
