Board approves purchase of new dump truck to replace 2003 unit

Darren Fischel, Road and Bridge Administrator, recommended the board accept Truck Center Companies of Wichita’s quote for a Freightliner 108SD at $154,803 under a KDOT/state cooperative contract.

"Staff recommends accepting the quote from Truck Center Companies Wichita, Kansas in the amount of $154,803," Darren said, explaining that the equipment meets county specifications and is compatible with the county’s existing inventory for parts and maintenance.

Darren said the purchase will replace a 2003 Kenworth with 381,723 miles and that funds will be taken from the O11 capital outlay line and the O20 special road and bridge machinery account. Delivery is expected in October 2026. He said if the county cannot find a use for the old truck it will be sold via Purple Wave or offered to the expo center.

Commissioners asked whether warranty service would require travel to Wichita; Darren said Freightliner service is available locally. After brief discussion the board moved, seconded and approved RFA 2026‑30 as presented.

Next steps: staff will finalize the cooperative purchase order, schedule delivery, and list or offer the 2003 Kenworth for reuse or sale.
