The Colonial Heights School Board voted May 28 to approve the division's 2024-25 Every Student Succeeds Act grant applications for Titles I, II, III and IV.
Mister Ridley summarized the use of each grant: Title I will target reading interventions across elementary schools and the middle school; Title II will finance professional development activities and tuition reimbursement for teachers; Title III will support English-language learners; and the division plans to transfer Title IV funds into Title II this cycle to expand teacher professional-development opportunities.
Board members asked clarifying questions about allocations and how transfers would offset other shortfalls. Ridley explained the transfer to Title II is intended to increase professional development and help cover tuition reimbursement costs that the division cannot fully absorb otherwise.
After discussion a motion to approve the grants was moved and seconded and the board recorded affirmative votes from members present. Staff said they would implement the programs as submitted and could answer follow-up questions about specific allocations during summer planning.
The board did not specify dollar totals for each Title program during the public portion of the meeting; Ridley described the targeted uses of funds rather than itemized line items.
