The Colonial Heights School Board on May 28 approved additions to the high-school course catalog intended to expand dual-enrollment opportunities and broaden elective offerings.
Mister Nelson told the board the division is advancing an associate-degree pathway and can add dual-enrollment calculus and theater courses taught by current staff, creating opportunities for students to earn college credit without significant new cost. The board packet listed four new electives, including hospitality/tourism/recreation, and a course on independent living and family/community connections; staff said these additions align with the culinary program and the career-technical center expansion.
Board members supported the proposal and moved to approve the course additions. Staff said the changes will increase access to college credit and more broadly applicable electives for students who previously could not enroll in advanced offerings.
No specific staffing or budget increases were identified during the public portion of the meeting; staff said current personnel and an added tech-center staff position enable the expanded offerings.
