The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously on March 3 to rename the San Sebastian River Park the Waldron Family Park, honoring three decades of public service by the Waldron family.
Commissioners read a proclamation that highlighted the county contributions of the late Commissioner Harry Waldron (service 1978–1990) and Commissioner Paul Waldron, who represented District 3 beginning in 2016 and was reelected in 2020. The proclamation credits the family with regional leadership and work that helped secure library sites and other public resources. Family members accepted the recognition in the chamber and posed for photographs with the commission.
The proclamation passed on a voice vote; no dissenting comments were recorded. The county clerk recorded the proclamation as official board action. The park will retain the same public uses but will carry the Waldron name on signage and in county records.
The renaming is an honorary action and does not itself allocate capital funds for new construction or programming at the site. County staff and commissioners said any future work at the park will be brought separately to the board for design and funding approvals.
