City staff gave council an overview of recent stormwater capital work and the pipeline of projects funded through last year’s rate decisions and a Florida utility revenue note.
"We issued a RFQ for stormwater and continuing engineering services, and we brought on five firms to exclusively work on stormwater projects," the presenter said, adding that the revenue note brought about $9,500,000 for stormwater projects.
Completed construction highlights staff listed included:
- Lake Charn ditch retrofit (ditch replaced by an installed pipe and erosion control);
- Twin Rivers Golf Course pipe replacement (corrugated metal pipe failure repaired);
- Town and Country Road culvert upsizing and scour protection;
- Oviedo Oaks pipe replacement and erosion protection;
- Live Oak Reserve Boulevard joint repairs and roadway restoration; and Alathea Woods (Gwen Circle) pipe replacement.
Staff described studies and designs underway, including Althea Woods ditch (preliminary engineering to address erosion), Mission Road (conveyance improvements), Lake Jessup Avenue/Clark Road (study for positive outflow), Terrace Drive ditch (longstanding maintenance challenges), a Little Econ River basin study, and several projects anticipated to go to bid in the coming months (Boston Hill Park, Panther Street/Carissa Lane, Windy Pine repairs).
Council asked several clarifying questions about Magnolia project scope (roadway vs. stormwater), schedules and efforts to minimize impervious surface increases; staff said Magnolia is under construction and box culvert installation should start in three weeks with efforts to complete before the wet season.
Staff will return with project schedules and will bring some projects to bid in the coming months.
