At the closing joint session of the 2024 YMCA Youth Legislature, program leaders presented multiple awards and Director of Elections Emma Peters announced the leadership team for the next session.
Postmaster General Abby Naiman presented the Outstanding Page Award to Noah Garza, noting his determination and that he walked 20 miles during session week. Chief Lobbyist Executive Campbell Phillips named Smaran Malakapali as Lobbyist of the Year, and the editor in chief (introduced as Kalyn Van Duzer) singled out Kate Carlson as a standout reporter. Executive Director Nolan Martin announced Yelm High School as this year’s Outstanding Delegation. Program Committee Chair Tay Tatum Fothering Hill presented the Linda Metcalfe Outstanding Advisor Award to Sam Toft of the Everett delegation.
Director of Elections Emma Peters then announced the winners of major offices for the 70th (next) session: Lydia Lopez (Postmaster General), Ellis Gilmore (Chief Lobbyist Executive), Kacen Farley (Editor in Chief), Hannah Ullman (Attorney General), Hugh Carter (Secretary of State), Nia Faizal (Speaker Pro Tem), Anika Prabhakar (Speaker of the House), Ava Wagner (President Pro Tem), Gavin Cruz (Lieutenant Governor), and Campbell Phillips (Youth Governor). Peters asked successful candidates to come to the rostrum as their names were read.
The session concluded with procedural announcements by the reading clerk about recycling materials and lost-and-found, followed by a motion from Milton Moore to adjourn. The presiding officer called for flag-card votes, declared a majority in favor and adjourned the 2024 YMCA Youth Legislature.
