At the March 2 special meeting, Trustee Matt Slayton read an order of cancellation for the May 2, 2026 Argyle ISD trustee election.
Reading from the order, Slayton stated: "Argyle ISD Board of Trustees hereby cancel the election scheduled to be held on 05/02/2026 in accordance with section 2.0539(a) of the Texas Election Code. Following candidates have been certified as unopposed and are hereby elected as follows: Justin Ford, Trustee, Place 1; Lianne Artho, Trustee, Place 2; and Mr. Frank Dixon, Trustee, Place 3." He said a copy of the order would be posted at polling places that would have been used in the election.
Board President Sam Slaton then called for a motion to approve action item 9b. The motion was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote with no opposition. Trustees noted they will swear in the newly certified trustees at the May 18 board meeting.
Why it matters: Under Texas Election Code sec. 2.0539(a), districts may cancel elections when candidates are unopposed; the action shortens the election process and establishes the certified candidates as elected without a ballot. The swearing-in date gives the newly certified trustees a firm start date.
Next steps: The district will post the order at the affected polling locations and prepare for the May 18 swearing-in of Justin Ford, Lianne Artho and Frank Dixon.
