Parents press Parma board for answers as Page gifted program and livestreaming spark frustration

Multiple parents and community representatives used the public‑comment period to demand clearer timelines and more transparency after the board’s recent actions affecting the Page gifted program.

Christina Edenfield, speaking as a parent, thanked those who had worked to identify options for the Page program but asked for clarity about the advisory committee’s goals, membership and timeline for any recommendations ahead of registration. Other speakers—including PTA treasurer Heather Akechi—urged the board to make committee materials and timelines available sooner and to improve response times to parent inquiries.

Several public speakers also addressed livestreaming. Former board member and community resident Kevin Kussmaul urged the board to resume live streaming for transparency; other members said the communications committee will consider livestreaming logistics if the board moves meetings back to the auditorium. Board president Missus Sebastian said the district will look into the issue and that committee and venue changes were already under discussion.

The board agreed to place livestreaming and meeting‑time adjustments on the next agenda and to provide updates to parents about the advisory committee’s work on gifted services. Several parents said they remain concerned about timing for registration and want decisions, or at least clear timelines, before families finalize plans for next school year.
