The Hamlet City Council on Aug. 13 adopted an ordinance to voluntarily annex the property at 462 Lewis Bridal Boulevard and approved a resolution supporting the Hamlet water and sewer project.
Heather Hawkes, the city clerk, read a certification of the annexation petition to the council: "I, Heather Hawkes, city clerk, do hereby certify that I have investigated the petition attached hereto and have found as a fact that said petition is signed by all owners ... in accordance in accordance with general statute 168 58.1"; the council then closed the public hearing and a motion to adopt ordinance 2024-04 was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Later in the meeting the council moved and adopted resolution 2024-05 supporting the Hamlet Water and Sewer Project; the motion was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
On the depot office-space item the city manager presented rental-comparable data and recommended a $6.50 package rate for the two adjoining offices under discussion. Council members debated whether to set a per-square-foot rate, whether to offer an across-the-board discount for second-space renters, and the risk of creating a precedent by discounting one tenant. Because members requested additional data, a motion to table the depot rental item until the September meeting passed.
