The DeKalb County Commissioners approved multiple highway department recommendations on March 2, including purchasing an in‑stock 2025 grader and moving forward on bridge and culvert work.
Highway Superintendent Ben Parker summarized bids for a Greatall grader and recommended purchasing an in‑stock 2025 model from Southeastern Equipment and adding a brush guard he said would improve operator safety. Parker recommended against buying an older used unit without a warranty and favored the in‑stock purchase for immediate replacement. The board approved the motion to purchase the 2025 grader and the brush guard for a total of $573,505.70 and later approved listing the existing grader on the government auction site.
Staff also presented upcoming bridge procurements including replacement work for Bridge 75 and a rehabilitation project for Bridge 503 on Auburn Drive over Cedar Creek. Commissioners approved sending bid documents for Bridge 75 and approved the Bridge 503 rehab as presented.
For a culvert replacement (structure 253 on County Road 21) staff received three quotes; Saint Joe Manufacturing provided the low quote of $24,830.23. Commissioners voted to accept that quote and proceed with the replacement.
All highway-related motions passed by roll call with unanimous support.
