A parent at the town hall said their son was accepted into the district's P‑TECH program but was told the district would not pay because he is enrolled in a private/parochial school. District staff acknowledged the family's concern and said they would follow up.
"If you register as an East Ramapo, if your student is registered as an East Ramapo student, there shouldn't be a fee for tuition," district staff member Miss Baraboo said, describing the usual rule for P‑TECH slots. District presenters said P‑TECH has a limited number of slots (15) reserved for public-school students and that the program maintains a waiting list for those seats.
Parents at the meeting expressed frustration that, despite paying school taxes, a private‑school student accepted by P‑TECH had been told the family must pay. A district staff member said the district is researching how other districts handle non‑public entrants and would contact the family for follow-up.
Why it matters: P‑TECH provides a six‑year pathway combining high school and postsecondary credentialing via a BOCES partnership; access and who pays for seats can have direct equity and financial implications for families and for the district's enrollment-management practices.
Next steps: Administrators said they have the parent's contact information and will pursue answers with the school business official and P‑TECH program staff.
