The Levittown Board of Education used its May 8 meeting to recognize student accomplishments across the district in science, music and the visual arts.
Winch and school staff called dozens of students to the front to accept certificates and group photos for science-competition placements and research honors. Staff highlighted Wisdom Lane’s long run of state qualifiers and Division Avenue’s recent invitational and state successes in Science Olympiad.
Frank Krieger, the district’s director of fine and performing arts, announced that Levittown Schools were designated a 2024 Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation, praising the board and central office for supporting access to music education. “The NAMM Foundation recognizes and celebrates districts for their support and commitment to music education and efforts to assure access to music for all students,” Krieger said.
Principals and research teachers read student accomplishments at MacArthur High School, including awards and medals in regional and national competitions. Principal Joe Sheehan introduced MacArthur’s salutatorian, Benjamin Campbell, who plans to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and valedictorian Zarif Jamal, who plans to attend Cornell University; Sheehan listed multiple academic and extracurricular honors for both students.
The board also noted individual art winners in a regional Long Island competition and invited parents and administrators to congratulate the students. The recognitions concluded before the board moved to public comment and the scheduled budget presentation.
