Superintendent Jeremy delivered the superintendent's report at the April 24 meeting, highlighting several operational updates and grant opportunities. He thanked transportation and staff for helping students return safely from a recent Europe trip and said PAC lighting at the middle school has been repaired following installation challenges.
Jeremy reported the district applied for the next round of government electric school buses and explained why electric buses could work well in Biddeford, given short route lengths that simplify charging logistics. "Electric school buses in Biddeford would work really, really well just because you have some runs that are such a short commute," he said.
He also said the district completed the window project at Biddeford Public Schools and signaled staff are preparing bids for remaining building work. Jeremy told the committee the state released a $20,000,000 grant as part of a bond for career-and-technical education equipment and said the application deadline is July 10; the grant would fund equipment (for example, a mini excavator) rather than infrastructure modifications.
Other updates: spring sports participation exceeds 200 high-school-level athletes and the district's retirement banquet is scheduled for May 30. Jeremy encouraged committee members to watch for event invitations.
The superintendent did not commit to specific grant awards or bus purchases; he framed both as applications and opportunities subject to award decisions and future budgeting.
