At a Committee of the Whole meeting of the Spooner Area School District Board, members elected Joe Weiss as board president and filled the other officer posts during the board reorganization. The board took roll call votes and the chair announced that the motions passed, naming Joe Weiss president; Nathaniel Melton was elected vice president, Michelle Jepsen clerk and Andrew Milton treasurer.
The reorganization began with nominations for president. After a first and second were recorded, the chair called for a roll call; the chair then declared, “motion passes then with Joe Weiss as our new board president,” and Weiss chose to let the previous presiding officer continue for the rest of the evening. Board members offered thanks to outgoing member Megan for her year of service.
Votes for the other officer positions followed in sequence. The chair called for nominations and roll‑call votes for vice president (Nathaniel Melton), clerk (Michelle Jepsen) and treasurer (Andrew Milton); each nomination received the necessary support and the motions were announced as passed.
Board members discussed the treasurer duties briefly before the vote when one member asked “what that entails” and was told the treasurer would be asked to sign and review paperwork and to interact periodically with district finance staff. After the votes, the board moved on to the evening’s presentations and other business.
The officer elections were handled as part of the board’s reorganization portion of the meeting and will be reflected in the next regular meeting’s minutes and consent items.
