The Wabash City Schools board on March 2 adopted three updated policies after a second reading, citing changes prompted by a recent State Board of Accounts audit.
The board approved revisions to Policy 4010 (enrollment), which the Superintendent said removes prior language that required students to live in the district to attend and adds a requirement that families provide proof of residency “required by Indiana law.” The board also approved Policy 6013, a new policy the Superintendent described as establishing internal controls for federal grant administration—covering allowability, cash management, procurement, conflicts-of-interest, equipment management, reporting, audits and corrective action, and staff training—plus procedures for reporting suspected misuse of federal funds.
The board adopted Policy 3150, an updated controlled-substance and alcohol policy for employees who hold a commercial driver’s license. The Superintendent said the revision incorporates 11 federal guidelines identified in coordination with the state transportation director at the Indiana Department of Education.
Chair called for the vote after a brief board discussion; board members voiced assent and the Chair announced the motions passed.
Why it matters: the enrollment change clarifies district eligibility and requires families to provide proof of residency; the new federal-grant policy sets internal controls and oversight steps intended to reduce risk of noncompliance; and the CDL policy aligns district rules with federal requirements for employees who drive commercially.
The Superintendent said copies of the updated policies are available at central office and offered to provide printed copies to anyone who requests them. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript beyond members saying “Aye.”
