Prince George's County Public Schools honors three longtime security workers

Prince George's County Public Schools surprised three long-serving safety and security employees with legacy awards during the district's first Safety and Security Professionals Day, a school-system celebration organizers said.

DC News reporter Tim Reed, on site for the ceremony, said the three honorees together have 108 years of service with the district. Each recipient received a staycation at a hotel in College Park, flowers and a $100 gift card.

The awards were presented as part of an event meant to recognize the district's safety and security workforce. Reed reported that many friends and colleagues were on hand for the presentation. School leaders framed the recognition as a way to spotlight staff whose work, they said, is often unnoticed but central to school safety.

Speakers at the ceremony, cited by Reed, described the moment as a surprise and an honor. The reporting noted that honorees spoke about the personal rewards of working with students, saying they appreciate seeing former students remember them years later.
