Staff and a teacher presented details on upcoming student trips and discussed recent legislative changes affecting outdoor-school funding.
A teacher/presenter described the World Language Day trip to Eastern Oregon University and said about 40 students attend each year. The teacher said the trip is scheduled for March 4 and that trips over 100 miles one way or overnight require board approval: “For World Language Day… it’s March 4,” the presenter said.
On outdoor school, staff said funding that had been cut is expected to be restored by legislative action or ballot support going forward. One board member asked whether the district would be reimbursed for trips already taken this year; staff said that while the legislature appears supportive and future years should be fully funded, reimbursement for the current year was not specified.
Staff also discussed district obligations for charter schools’ special-education needs and how the district provides consultative services to charters while receiving a proportionate share of funding, noting the practical gap between costs and the allocations the district receives.
What happens next: field trips that meet mileage or overnight thresholds will be placed on the business agenda for formal approval; staff will monitor legislative implementation of outdoor-school funding.
