Staff presented the district’s three‑year library plan, noting the presentation is required by state statute or administrative code every three years. The plan emphasizes libraries’ role in supporting curriculum, outlines a two‑part strategic objective (supporting top‑10% school performance and fiscal responsibility), and documents that Library Technical Staff (LTS) are assigned to every building to collaborate with teachers and curate resources.
The presenter said LTSs conduct collection audits, work with public libraries, and support project‑based lessons (Project Lead The Way) at the elementary level. The plan includes procedures for handling fines, instructional media use, and a formal challenges and complaints process for contested materials.
Separately, staff reported 222 students enrolled in 4K this year, an increase of about 30 students from the prior year. Staff noted a small number of district families (seven) may still require placement options; staff will follow up to fill available spaces and are not presenting open enrollment numbers at this time.
The board was asked to approve the library plan next week so the district can report completion to the state. Staff said they will provide any additional answers the board needs when all relevant staff are present.
Next steps: board action on the library plan at the next meeting to meet the statutory presentation requirement; staff to follow up on 4K placement for the families not yet placed.
