Superintendent Dr. Ernest told the board he will welcome Jenny Shohoney as the district s director of pupil services and special education on July 1 and outlined several districtwide initiatives ahead of next school year.
"She's set to take over July 1 as our new director of, pupil services and special education," Dr. Ernest said, introducing Shohoney during his report. He said Shohoney will work with current staff during May and June as part of a transition plan.
Dr. Ernest described a community survey that opened to staff the day of the meeting and will be mailed to households with a postcard and QR code. "The postcard will land on or about May 13 with the QR code," he said, and the survey will also be available in paper form by request.
He also previewed Direct Admit Wisconsin, a program that can offer students guaranteed admission to participating state universities if they meet thresholds; and he flagged updated federal Title IX regulations expected to take effect Aug. 1. "These regulations will take place August 1," Dr. Ernest said, noting the district will need to provide annual training under the new rules and that the scope of required annual training is broader than prior practice.
On policy, Dr. Ernest led a first reading of the Neola package (policy 33.1), explaining that tracked changes in the packet appear in green and describing why some language appears in both the 3000- and 4000-series of policies. He highlighted specific items such as a toxic-hazards preparedness officer role and updated student anti-harassment language that adds clarity to complaint filing procedures.
During the meeting the chair moved to convene into closed session to discuss certified staff negotiations, an employee contract renewal and conduct a first reading of the 2023-24 crisis plan.
