The Nacogdoches City Council adopted a resolution committing the city to two airport projects at A.L. Mangum Jr. Regional Airport so TxDOT can advance them for state review and funding.
Airport Manager Colin Smith said TxDOT asked for a formal resolution to place the runway paving and airport layout plan on the State Transportation Commission agenda. Smith described the expected funding split as roughly 90% grant funds and 10% city funds and provided preliminary estimates: about $5.3 million for the runway project and roughly $400,000 for the airport layout plan.
"They would like us to pass a resolution, kind of a formal commitment to these two projects," Smith said, and noted the resolution will put the items on the State Transportation Commission's agenda, likely in June.
A council member moved to adopt the resolution and the motion passed by voice vote ('Aye'). Staff said the city would deliver required documentation quickly to meet TxDOT timelines.
The resolution formalizes the local commitment needed to pursue state-administered grant funding; final award and exact cost shares remain subject to TxDOT and State Transportation Commission review.
