At its May 14 meeting the Lexington County School District 3 Board of Trustees gave first-reading approval to several policy updates presented by Sonya Bryant.
Bryant outlined a core revision to the sick leave bank policy (GCCAAA): rather than a committee composed of general representatives from each facility, the administration recommended the committee be made up of four principals, the director of lifelong learning and the assistant superintendent for personnel and instruction to reduce conflicts for classroom teachers serving on the committee. Bryant said the policy had not been updated since 1998 and recommended the staffing changes to address participation and conflict concerns. A motion was made, seconded and the board gave first-reading approval unanimously.
Bryant also presented updates to four administrative policies grouped under administration goals and priority objectives (CA), the superintendent’s contract (CBD), the superintendent evaluation (CBI), and principals/building administration (CFA). With CBI, Bryant said the administration added October as the recommended month for the superintendent evaluation so the board and superintendent will know the timing. The board moved, seconded and approved these items on first reading without further changes.
The policy approvals were first readings; Bryant indicated the changes were largely formatting and timing clarifications in some cases and a substantive committee-composition change for the sick leave bank.
