At the Feb. 26 meeting the Templeton Advisory Committee pressed staff for follow-up on multiple grant and special-fund items, including an unspent police-vest grant, a HAZMAT mitigation reimbursable grant and ARPA-designated police funds.
Committee members said packet materials show a police-vest grant that had not been used; the town accountant told the committee the grant predates her tenure and that such funds are in the care and custody of the police department. "I would recommend discussing with them for further information," the chair read from the packet, and members asked staff to contact the police chief for clarification.
The chair also read an update that the HAZMAT mitigation grant is a reimbursable award and that Rich Curtis reported the grant was extended until July 15, 2026, though staff hope to close it sooner. Members asked the town to follow up to ensure timely reimbursement and year-end closeout.
Finally, members discussed $14,208.51 in ARPA funds designated for police support and equipment that the packet described as in danger of being forfeited if not used; the committee asked the Town Administrator and department heads to investigate and report back. Members noted turnover in personnel could have contributed to oversight of designated funds and asked that answers be provided to the advisory committee.
The committee did not reallocate funds at the meeting but directed staff to gather details from the police department, the town accountant, and the Town Administrator and to provide written follow-up.
