Rainier board approves no-cost health-center contract and $44,000 auditorium curtain replacement

The Rainier School District board approved two contracts at its regular meeting.

Columbia Health Services: Dr. Hatrick presented a professional services agreement with Columbia Health Services covering 2023–2028 for the district's school-based health center and described it as a no-cost contract to the district. He said CHS operates the center using funding from the Columbia Pacific Coordinated Care Organization, the Oregon Health Authority and insurance reimbursements while the district provides in-kind janitorial services and utilities. Dr. Hatrick said any request from the district for additional mental-health staffing would be addressed by an amendment that could include cost sharing. A board member (speaker 2) moved to approve the professional services contract, speaker 7 seconded, and the Chair called the vote; the motion carried with no opposition.

StageCraft Industries: The board then considered a contract to replace the auditorium fire curtain, a project priced in the meeting discussion at about $44,000 to be funded from the district’s previously allocated ESSER III funds. Board members asked whether asbestos abatement would include a disposal certificate; the superintendent and others said abatement would include necessary certification. A motion to accept the StageCraft Industries contract was made by speaker 7 and seconded by speaker 3; the Chair called the vote and the motion carried with no opposition.
