The McGuffey School District board handled a series of formal motions April 18, including approvals of bills, donations, grants, travel and critical software renewals. Highlights:
- General fund schedule of bills (March 22/18/2024): Approved as submitted for $793,070.69 (checks 79041'79141). A board member asked to review a $724.79 Scholastic Classroom magazine purchase separately; administration said bills already received must be paid and vendor review can be scheduled.
- Food service schedule of bills: Approved, $54,877.33.
- GOB series 2021 bills: Approved, $57,030.
- Grants and donations: Accepted a $13.50 memorial gift; two anonymous $5,000 donations for elementary playgrounds (total $10,000); and a $17,735.18 award from PaTTAN to support literacy initiatives.
- Trips: Approved preliminary marching-band travel to Walt Disney World (April 2025) with an approximate substitute-cost line item; approved a May 18 Cedar Point trip with no district cost.
- Personnel approvals: Included acceptance of a retirement, multiple hires and substitute placements, approval of marching-band staff positions (budgeted), and coaching appointments. Specific hires included Jordan Sinclair as a school counselor (pending clearances).
- Software/services: Approved a three-year Frontline Education agreement ($16,492.54) and a PowerSchool license renewal ($24,981.42) for 2024'25.
Most motions passed either by voice vote or roll call; the board also approved the proposed budget for public viewing and the special education plan submission (see separate articles).
