Superintendent Brian told the Banks SD 13 Board of Directors on April 8 that the district is “no longer on a waiting list” and is now “fully guaranteed” to receive $6,000,000 in state grant funding if the district’s bond measure passes.
Brian said the guaranteed funds would “not need to be paid back” and stressed that the windfall is conditional on voter approval of the bond. He warned that the county’s ballot pamphlet may still list an earlier waiting‑list amount because the change occurred after the pamphlet deadline.
The superintendent described several outreach steps to inform voters: a town hall at St. Francis Church in Roy on April 21, another session April 27 targeted to bused‑in neighborhoods, two mailed informational pieces (one in late April and another in mid‑May), social‑media outreach and a banner to be placed near existing signage. He reminded the board that ballots are due May 21.
Why it matters: The $6 million in state support would reduce taxpayer burden for facilities work tied to the bond and could make the package more affordable for voters. Brian also cautioned that if the bond fails the guaranteed funds would be reallocated to another district and the district would have to reapply and enter the waiting process again.
What’s next: The district will continue outreach and information distribution ahead of the May 21 election. The superintendent and board encouraged the community to consult the district website for details about the bond.
