The Greenville Central School District board reviewed a draft of the 2024–25 school calendar at its March meeting, confirmed inclusion of Asian Lunar New Year next year and signaled a preference for a Friday graduation on June 27.
S2 introduced the calendar and asked Mike (S1) to summarize the calendar committee’s work; S1 said the calendar committee (run by Mr. Reeve with PFA members) proposed moving graduation back to Friday, June 27, and noted continuing coordination with Questar and New York State holidays. The board discussed the addition of Lunar New Year (Jan. 29 next year) and confirmed the district must still meet the 186-day instructional requirement.
The board also reviewed the board calendar and workshop schedule: the spring workshop was moved from a weekend to a weekday, a goals-development workshop is scheduled for July 29 at 6 p.m., and the February workshop is set for a Wednesday to avoid budget-season conflicts. S3 (Kelly) reported that she and Jim had met with committee chairs and will present recommended changes to committee charges and membership next month.
The board asked administrators to review whether budget/business workshops should be rescheduled to reduce consecutive heavy weeks for administrators and board members; staff will revisit the timing based on availability of I-Ready data and other scheduling constraints.
What happens next: The board expects to present committee-charge recommendations next month and finalize the calendar after coordinating with Questar and administrators.
