Students and staff used the April 24 Mahopac Board of Education meeting to highlight extracurricular learning and recent student achievements.
Caitlin O’Brien, chair of the district art department, introduced the Mahopac National Art Honor Society and named student officers. Student presenters described the club’s founding in February 2022, outreach at Springfest and Wellfest, fundraising plans and a goal to make art more accessible across the high school.
Model UN advisers Christine Honaghan (social studies teacher) and Señor Ford (Spanish teacher and world language department chair) introduced officers from the Mahopac Model UN club, who summarized the club’s simulation work, regional conference participation and awards. The students cited recent community events they co‑hosted — including a culture night at Lakeview Elementary School, Earth Day planting, freshman orientation support and regional conference awards — and said they plan further conferences and community engagement.
Director of physical education, athletics and health Steven Luciana recognized a long list of winter season accomplishments across boys and girls programs, naming team and individual honorees in basketball, wrestling, bowling, skiing, swimming, cheer and gymnastics; he noted the varsity boys basketball team finished 18–2 and was undefeated in league play.
The board thanked students, staff and coaches for the presentations and honored athletes were invited to the front for photos. No formal action was taken on these presentations; they were part of the meeting’s information and recognition agenda.
