Students from the district’s middle school presented activities and a time capsule to the Board of Education on April 2.
Student council advisor Caitlin O’Connell introduced student council members who described programming this year, including Unity Day (anti‑bullying), a Halloween dance the council organized, spirit weeks tied to the district’s 50th anniversary and a poetry contest. Student council president Julia Babst said the middle school’s time capsule includes 2022–23 yearbooks, photo albums, student artwork, the school literary magazine and letters to the future.
Why it matters: The student presentation put a civic and community face on the board meeting and underscored student engagement ahead of the district’s 50th anniversary. The council said the time capsule was assembled with input from the school community and will be opened at the district’s 100th anniversary per their plan.
Quotes: "This year marks the 50 years of Shore and Winning River School District," a student council member said; student council president Julia Babst added that the time capsule included yearbooks, student artwork and a student literary magazine.
Ending: Board members thanked students and staff for the presentation. The students’ activities and the scheduled anniversary events were noted as community touchpoints ahead of the spring budget and other district business.
