At the Aug. 22 meeting the board received the superintendent's report, which included four draft district SMART goals for the 202324 year and a summary of summer curriculum work. The administration plans to place final district goals on the September agenda for approval.
Dr. Furnari said the goals will align with the district strategic plan and be measurable and time-bound. "Each of the draft district goals is written as a SMART goal," she said, adding that the goals are intended to guide administrator and teacher objectives for the year and be revisited as needed.
Director of Education Mr. Novak summarized summer curriculum work and told trustees the K5 Eureka Math (Math Squared) adoption and implementation planning were on the agenda for the night and that he will present a fuller implementation briefing on Sept. 19. He also described a new semester character-education course for grades 67, revised journalism/media offerings at Highlander Academy and inclusion efforts such as the percussion ensemble.
A motion to approve education agenda items 19, which included curriculum approvals, passed by roll call.
What happens next: the administration will provide a more detailed implementation presentation on Sept. 19 (per the director), and the board will receive a finalized district goals document on the September agenda for formal approval.
