Three candidates running for two seats on the Depew Union Free School District board addressed the audience after the budget presentation.
Jeffrey Gordon described 15 years of involvement with district athletics and coaching and said he would prioritize opening lines of communication with principals, the board and families. "I'd like to open lines of communication that I have not seen in talking to just neighborhood, friends, and family in the district," he said.
Justin Young, who introduced himself as a 16‑year resident and a public middle‑school science teacher with a master’s degree in special education, said he would focus on fiscal responsibility, maintaining program quality and improving communication among the superintendent, the board and families. "I respectfully ask for your vote next Tuesday and your confidence to continue my service to the district," Young said.
Gary Lee said his MBA and experience as a parent of a special‑needs child motivated him to seek a board seat, stressing financial responsibility while sustaining athletics, special‑needs supports and extracurricular programs. He emphasized wanting to help families navigate special‑needs questions and said he hopes to bring a practical fiscal perspective to the board.
The board reminded the audience that the two highest vote getters will be elected on May 21 in the high‑school gymnasium.
