Wilson County Schools officials and bus drivers marked Bus Driver Appreciation Week with brief tributes and public remarks.
Public commenter (S1) described driving as ‘‘all about their personalities’’ and said the job is about ‘‘what they like, what they dislike’’ and bonding with students: “I just, you know, drive the bus and bond with them.” Public commenter (S2) recounted a long history as a driver, saying, “Well, off and on, I've been a driver since I was 16 years old,” and added the remark, verbatim, “I will be 6 to 8 in June,” which was not explained during the meeting.
Meeting participant (S3) offered a direct salute to drivers: “Thank you to all of our bus drivers in Wilson County Schools. We love and appreciate you so much.” The comment framed the public remarks as recognition from the school community.
Agency official (S4) offered the district’s formal appreciation, thanking drivers and the broader transportation staff — mechanics and routing/office personnel — for keeping buses running. “Our drivers, your dedication, your commitment to our students, our families, and our schools, is absolutely essential,” S4 said, adding that the work helps make “Wilson County Schools Transportation the very best transportation department in the state.”
Public commenter (S2) also praised drivers’ performance, saying, “Our drivers are second to none to anybody,” and credited the district’s expectations for that result. S2 concluded with a quoted aside, attributing a phrase to Kendra Lamar: “they not like us.” That comment was not followed by clarification in the meeting.
There were no recorded motions, votes, or formal decisions tied to these remarks; the exchange consisted of public comments and district expressions of gratitude during Bus Driver Appreciation Week.
