Port St. Joe asks county for $200,000 toward George Crow Park bathrooms or property purchase

At the May 21 meeting, Port St. Joe commissioners approved a formal request to the county to furnish $200,000 toward bathrooms at George Crow Park or to assist with purchase of adjacent property if it becomes available.

Staff introduced a suggested amount and commissioners discussed alternative funding sources and the potential that the Tourist Development Council (TDC) might contribute given the park’s role in events and tourism. One commissioner suggested the request come from the TDC budget; another proposed asking the county for $200,000 to leave negotiation room. The commission voted to request the $200,000 and directed staff to prepare the formal request.

What happens next: Staff will prepare the county budget request and pursue coordination with the TDC and county commissioners as the county budget process proceeds.
