The Taylor School District board on July 17 approved multiple procurement and policy items including a $90,400 award for a new public-address system, a color/copy-machine refresh, digital-forms software pilot and insurance renewals, and also approved an overnight cheer-camp field trip.
John Ross, the district’s IT director, recommended replacing PA systems at three schools with a Nyquist C4000-series, Bogen-based solution to provide remote management, weather-service integration and expanded outdoor coverage. Ross said the packaged proposal from Worldwide Technical Services would cost $90,400 and be funded from bond allocations; the board approved the contract by recorded vote (5–0).
Ross also presented a proposed refresh of small color copiers for front offices and human resources. The district identified seven color copiers with a total price of $32,009.21 and noted the cost was anticipated in the current budget; the board approved the purchase and related quotes (motions recorded and carried in the meeting).
Separately, the board approved a digital-forms and workflow agreement for Informed K12 not to exceed $28,035 to be funded from Title II administrative cost allocations. The board also approved an overnight conference request to send a staff member to the Michigan Association of State and Federal Program Specialists Summer Learning Leadership Academy (no cost to the district).
Edwina, the district insurance administrator, presented the Mizell insurance renewal for 2024–25 with a premium of $546,404 (an increase of roughly $252,000, driven largely by a fully funded loss pool allocation). The board approved the renewal. Edwina also recommended renewing an excess workers’ compensation buffer layer with Gallagher not to exceed $46,000; that motion was approved.
On the Braun construction change order for a full roof replacement at Myers Elementary — a proposed additional cost of $595,957.91 to be paid from bond funds — Plant Moran’s Gary Kent said a full replacement would protect renovated areas, consolidate warranties and could be more economical than staged repairs. The board initially moved forward on the recommendation but, after an inspection of legal counsel’s advice in closed session, board leadership reported the motion did not ultimately pass.
The meeting also approved the cheer-camp overnight field trip (Allendale, Mich.; Aug. 2–4) with four chaperones and participation by middle-school and high-school cheer squads; one trustee abstained from that vote due to a personal conflict. Other routine items, including a human-resources copier replacement and consent agenda items, carried as presented.
