The North Harrison Com School Corp board voted 5-0 to allow Tower Pinkster Architects to release drawings and specifications for bidding on the North Harrison Elementary renovation and addition project.
Architect Amanda Hudsucker (Tower Pinkster Architects) told the board the bid documents will be released within weeks, accompanied by two required legal advertisements; bids will be received and publicly opened on April 24 at 4:00 PM in the middle school cafeteria. Hudsucker said the plan is to phase construction so that critical spaces remain operational: the cafeteria and stage area will be demolished and reconstructed first, the kitchen will not be usable during the school year and contingency plans are being developed, and office renovations are planned for the summer window but carry typical risks if timelines slip.
Board members asked procedural questions about how bids will be solicited and how contingency plans will address kitchen and office availability. Hudsucker said the team will prepare a recommendation letter after reviewing bids and will work with the selected contractor to refine phasing and contingency plans.
Why it matters: Approving release of construction documents and the scheduled public bid opening starts the contractor selection process for a major school facility project. Phasing and contingency planning affect school operations during construction and were discussed to reduce disruption.
What’s next: Bids due and publicly opened April 24 at 4:00 PM; administration will review bids and return a recommendation for contract award at a future board meeting.
