At the March 14 board meeting, parent Annette Oropeza told trustees she learned that Door No. 2 — the entry her kindergartner uses — had been left ajar and asked what protocols the district uses to prevent unauthorized entry.
Oropeza said she appreciated safety drills (students took ALICE training) but asked the board to outline what staff and parents should do to ensure doors are kept secured during arrival and dismissal. She said parents are worried about intruders and mass‑violence threats and asked for ‘‘future solutions to this issue or protocols that are currently taking place to ensure the safety of our children.’'
Board members acknowledged the concern, and administrative staff said they would follow up with the parent and research additional security steps and communications. No formal action was taken at the meeting; the Chair reminded the public that the board would research and respond.
What’s next: administration to follow up with the parent and report back via the board’s designated contacts.
