Rep. Dan Newhouse delivered a keynote at the Mainstream Republicans Cascade Conference in Yakima that stressed agricultural priorities, border security and a coordinated response to fentanyl.
Newhouse described himself as a third-generation family farmer and said protecting agricultural land and hydropower infrastructure is central to his work in Congress. "We live in an agricultural area here... I fight every single day for the family farm," he said, adding that the Lower Snake River Dams supply power to hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses.
He also highlighted work on a regional fentanyl task force and argued for holding federal agencies accountable on border management. Newhouse called for fiscal discipline in Washington, D.C., and said Republicans should emphasize core principles such as limited government and support for veterans.
His remarks combined local economic concerns with national policy priorities, framing his agenda as defending rural livelihoods and addressing public-safety threats. Newhouse closed by urging attendees to stay engaged with upcoming conference panels and the 2024 election cycle.
