Chelsea Osei, the student board member, opened the board'brief and highlighted recent student achievements and district updates.
Osei announced the school'level athletic honors, saying the girls bowling team placed third in the Cherry Bowl state finals, the boys bowling team placed fourth at state competition, the cheer team placed third at state and the girls wrestling team finished second in the state finals. "We are so proud of everyone and cannot wait to see what the future holds for you all," Osei said.
She said the student government highlighted the month of Ramadan and described it as a period of fasting focused on self'discipline. Osei said the school is aiming to increase cultural awareness and that a space is available for Muslim students during lunch and study hall; she added that the counseling office is available to any students in need. "We hope for more conversations and cultural awareness to aid our Muslim population," Osei said.
On operational matters, Osei reported that the district has bought two new driver's'ed vehicles to replace two non'functioning cars. She also said the district discussed staffing needs for the upcoming school year, including plans to replace retiring and resigning staff and to provide accommodations for bilingual students.
Osei noted the district'level work with EOS and relayed a statistic presented in the brief: "80% of our student body hopes to attend a four'year university," which was offered as a student aspiration figure; the source or methodology for that percentage was not specified in the briefing.
The brief concluded with Osei thanking viewers and noting the next board of education meeting will be held in April. The segment did not record any formal motions or votes.
