Trustees table consideration of hiring public relations candidate pending firmer plan

The presiding official called members to consider agenda item “letter f,” saying, "Now, on letter f, consider a motion to hire 1 of the public relations candidates." The chair then opened the floor to a motion to act on the item.

A trustee moved to consider hiring one of the public relations candidates and another trustee seconded the motion. During discussion, trustees asked for more concrete proposals from firms. One trustee said firms should be assigned a task "to get back to us with how they see us, what do a review on us, look at how they could put us in a positive light, and get back to us with what they would do to enhance our situation." Members agreed they needed a firmer plan from applicants before selecting a firm.

After discussion, trustees voted to table the hiring motion so firms could return with clearer, task-based proposals. The clerk called the roll for tabling; Trustees Stylin, Feilco, Mason and Reinders were recorded as voting "Aye," and the clerk announced, "Motion carries." A trustee said the item would be revisited next week.

Earlier in the meeting the presiding official moved to enter executive session; a trustee seconded and the motion passed on a voice vote. The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn was moved, seconded and approved.
