At the March 11 workshop district leaders summarized changes to the special education program tied to the West 2 grant and a staffing recommendation to ensure compliance.
David told the board the updated special education plan for 2024–27 adds narrative for the new West 2 program (referred to as a 13.06 addition), includes details on identification counts and caseloads, and will be posted on public display for one month before formal approval and submission to the state/FFCRP site.
Separately, David recommended using grant funds to pay 50% of Dr. Mains’ additional time to serve as special education director for the West 2 program; he said the grant covers that cost and there would be no district budget impact. Dr. Myford and Dr. Mayes (named in the transcript as assisting with principal and special‑education duties) will coordinate on paperwork and timelines to keep the district in compliance.
David said the West 2 program is new and the board may revise related job descriptions later as succession planning continues for several senior administrators approaching retirement.
The board did not take final action at the workshop; staff will post the special education plan for public review and present it for a formal vote after the public display period.
