Hazleton music department chair invites community to Music in Our Schools Month events in March

Jessica Schafer, chair of the Hazleton Area School District music department and a teacher and parent in the district, addressed the board to invite members and the public to the district's Music in Our Schools Month (MiOSM) events in March.

"Our events this year include over 390 students representing 8 schools from our district," Schafer said, and she outlined the schedule: Bandfest on March 17 and Chorusfest on March 24, both at 7 p.m. in the Hazleton Area High School Auditorium, and a March 31 performance at the Hazleton Area Cyber Academy in Laurel Mall from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $6, with $1 from each ticket supporting the Jeff Horashak Memorial Scholarship and remaining proceeds supporting future MiOSM events.

Schafer described MiOSM as a national advocacy and celebration month for music education and asked for community attendance and support. The board thanked her for the invitation; no formal board action was required.
